Stuff We Like!

Alright. We gotta admit. We’re feeling a little Christmassy (that a real word?) already, even though the holidays are still a month to come. Maybe it’s the fact that we’re busy readying THE GRAPEVINE CHRISTMAS PULLOUT SPECIAL SPECTACULAR and thus thinking a lot about sleeping in and eating good food, maybe it’s just the calm, xmas-like weather we’re experiencing. In any case, there’s a little tingle there.
That Christmas Spirit can be fun to indulge in, and luckily, there are lots of opportunities to do just that this time of year (for some reason, we’re not the only ones jumping the gun).
There are countless Christmas buffets all around Reykjavík, at Perlan, Hótel Loftleiðir, Vox, Silfur, Einar Ben… the list goes on! Just check and see if your favourite restaurant doesn’t have one.
One of the more interesting ones this year is probably at Húsasmiðjan – the hardware store. Yes. The hardware store. Is hosting a Christmas buffet. You can go there and fill up on all sorts of Christmassy stuff for only 990 ISK. Pork, herring, you name it. Check it out.
There are also Christmas sales and markets going on in the city that are good to check out. Try Kolaportið or just strolling down Laugavegur for starters. Get some hot chocolate, maybe a waffle, you know the score. One interesting Christmas market, or bazaar if you will, that caught our eye might also interest you.
It’s called… Christmas Bazaar, and it’s being thrown by two lovely ladies in 101 Reykjavík. They started it last weekend and it had such a nice success that they went and did it again for this one. They’re selling all sorts of homemade stuff, mostly from recycled materials… The fun bit about it is that they’re doing it at one of their downtown apartments, so going there will be a fun way to fill up on that Christmas spirit in an Icelandic home environment. It goes on Saturday from 13:00 – 18:00 at Bergsstaðastræti 65 (not too far from Kaffibarinn)
They sent us a note that says: “Let your inner Christmas spirit browse and purchase from our selection of handcrafted Christmas ornaments, decorations, Advent wreaths to children’s clothes, accessories, jewellery and all baubles which may put you into the mood of the Season!”
Good luck to them, and good luck to you all too. Happy premature Christmas, y’all!
